Kerala may become the first state in Kerala to decriminalize homo sexuality by amending the notorious Section 377 of the IPC .

LGBT activists in India have been fighting a long, tireless and thankless battle against Section 377 which criminalizes any and all sexual acts “against the order of nature” — a Draconian law which has been used to target, punish, intimidate, and fleece, the Indian gay community for years.

It is not the Kerala as a society have become so broad minded that they can accept homo sexuality. It is still very conservative and draconian in its own way but may be a law is the right top down approach to make it happen .

Dr. Shashi Tharoor recently met with Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, to discuss the possibility of amending Section 377. This meeting comes not long after Dr. Tharoor’s letter to the Kerala CM, asking him to take an initiative on decriminalizing homosexuality.

If reports have to be believed it is also said that Law secretary , B G Harindranath has drafted a bill on amending the section 377 which will be kept in the assembly shortly . Since the govt has majority to pass the bill mostly it will become the law and that means Kerala will become the first LGBT friendly state in the country.

If this happens it will make Kerala not only the most literate state in India but also the most liberated ?

Will it happen ?. Is it the right direction ?. Please voice your comments and concerns in the comments section below. We would love to have an engaging discussion with all our readers which will lead to better understanding of the issue and appreciate it better.
